America the Beautiful

What are Americans? What is our culture? We are: Strong, we are forgiving, we are creative, we believe in a work ethic, we are smart, we enjoy having fun, we love our children and we have the power to overcome the hazards before us. I learned in undergrad that public schools were created to have an intelligent pool of workers for the rich to pull from. I believe that reason is now obsolete, we know need to jump out of the box and create something better. Now is a time to look within, we have the answers. Together we will accomplish so much. A friend told me the other day "Our children do not have role models any more".  I thought about that and felt a little sad.   But wait!  We are their role models and it is up to us to set a good example. I have made many mistakes, I just have to move on and try harder. We all want our children to be independent individuals with a solid sense of who they are and able contributors to a wholesome society. No one likes to think about social problems, so let's not think about them, let us think about the finished product. If that is too stressful, wake-up tomorrow morning and part your hair on the other side.  Don't laugh it shows intention, and it is quiet no one needs to know that you visualizing a better school system. Everything starts with an idea, then we visualize the result, then we go about doing it. It's kind of like when I feel too overwhelmed to tackle my filthy house. If I can decide to make myself visualize what the house will look like when I am done, I can do it. However, if I visualize each task that it will take to complete my chore, my energy takes a dive. Don't think about the problem visualize your own version a solution that is good for everyone. Love and laughter,                                                                                 Star Baby

The "let it all hang loose" attitude of the 1970's is over.  Researchers now state that emotional and behavioral regulation is essential to self-esteem, solid relationships and happiness later on in life. Emotional regulation refers to the intensity and duration of feeling states.  Behavioral regulation refers to the emotionally driven behavioral reactions.  Types of challenges include: -Tolerating frustration -Coping with fear and anxiety -Defending themselves and their belongings -Tolerating being alone -Negotiating friendships Parents can assist thier children through modeling responsive interactions which are:  sensitive, cooperative, supportive and accepting as well as a giving and taking nature. Overpowing, anxiety provocing disipline interfears with a child's ability to learn and confuses them.  Reasoning is a much better teacher and elivates their cognative and language skills.
